Why Do I Need Physical Therapy?

I’m a mom, just like you. My babies aren’t little anymore but I still worry about everything they do and if they are going to be successful and happy. My oldest is a boy (well, he’s a man now at 23 years old). When his first adult tooth broke through it failed to knock out the baby tooth. That darn baby tooth wasn’t even the least bit loose. It was hanging on for dear life! So we took him to the dentist and paid to have it pulled. It wasn’t the most pleasant experience and my Mom-brain immediately went to this – “Everyone else gets this for free. The baby tooth just falls out!” Why did this happen??

The Answer… sometimes we just need a little help to get where we need to be. Sometimes developmental skills don’t just organically happen. For example, some children learn to read easily and others need some tutoring. Some skills come naturally and others put us on the struggle bus! Sometimes parents can help guide their children to success and others time we also need help to teach our children a skill.

As a Pediatric PT I see that all parents love their children, but often we don’t know how to play with them in a purposeful way that helps their gross motor skills develop. This is why a little PT can put your Mom-brain to rest and give you a little confidence that your baby is meeting gross motor milestone and your are doing everything you can to help.
