What Would You Do With a Little Knowledge?

I have 2 kids in their 20s so I try to stay up on the latest abbreviations for texting and social media. So IYKYK means "if you know you know". In this instance it's kind of like what Maya Angelou used to say - "When you know better, You do better." I believe this statement originally referred to parents who were raising kids but its so wise it quickly became used for almost anything in life.
I know when I first became a parent (and by that I mean the first decade of parenting) I had very few skills. I loved my kids. I had my own parents as models. But I didn't know a lot about the ins and outs, the daily grind, the minutia. I had to learn all that the hard way... in hindsight, after the fact. I got the opportunity to learn from lots of mistakes.
As a pediatric PT (and just so you know, I didn't specialize in pediatrics until my children were almost in their teens), I can help you learn about purposeful play. Its a term we use to mean how to play with your baby in a way that helps them learn gross motor skills. There is a lot of marketing out there that targets sleep deprived and desperate parents and makes them think they need a lot of gadgets (also called containers). There are aisles and aisles of toys at the store. Do you really need all those toys?? There is a whole section of books to read (if you have quiet time to do so). There is a lot on the internet. And if that's not enough, there are your family and friends who all have opinions.
So what would you do with a little knowledge? A pediatric PT can help you sift through your questions and give you some tried and true/hands on ways to purposefully play with your baby. And guess what, we can give you the science behind it too, if you have the bandwidth to absorb it. Recently I was given the wonderful opportunity to speak to a new mom's group a the Motherhood Center where we touched on a few topics. I also had the opportunity to do a one on one home visit where I answered questions and hopefully made a new mom feel like a Boss. IYKYK - it sounds like a great idea to me. Feel free to reach out to me and let me know what you'd like to learn about. These sessions are moldable to your needs and schedule and could be done individually or in a group that you put together of friends. I look forward to hearing from you. Knowledge is Power!
