This Is Just What I've Been Waiting For...

If you've read some of my blogs you know I am an advocate for educating new moms about gross motor development. In the past year I've made 2 failed attempts to start a mom's group that would provide gross motor tips for newborn to crawlers, and even to walking if the group so desired. I'll admit my social media capabilities are limited and pleas to busy pediatricians to gather new moms have also fallen flat.
But recently my prayers were answered when I received a call from Gabriela Gerhart of The Motherhood Center. She has started a New Mother's School at her center and wanted "little ole me" to come and talk about Tummy Time and Developmental milestones. So glad my hunch that her number wasn't one of those annoying robocalls prompted me to answer the phone. Let me first tell you how excited I was.
Since kindergarten talking has been my specialty, so getting to talk about one of my favorite subjects (nerd alert, its infant development) sent me to my happy place. I got to meet 4 amazing moms, their beautiful babies, and their fearless leader, Amanda. We spent a wonderful 30-45 minutes talking about the ins and outs of tummy time, torticollis, plagiocephaly/brachycephaly and how to make it more fun. These moms asked great questions and a little peanut named James was a spicy but willing participant in a hands on demonstration. The whole endeavor fulfilled my wildest dreams.
But here's the best part... The Motherhood Center looks like its awesome! They have so many cool opportunities for parents. They have retail merch. They have Yoga and massages. They have education for breastfeeding moms. AND... they have the New Mother School. The space is inviting and warm. The staff are engaging and enthusiastic. I can't wait to learn more about what they have to offer. And I can't wait to return next week for another session with the moms at the New Mother's School. Feel free to check them out on FB and tell them where you heard about them. Just remember - You do not have to "wait and see". You have options.
